One Room Challenge Week 1: Laundry Room

One Room Challenge Week 1: Laundry Room

Ahhh I can’t believe this is officially happening! I was just scrolling IG stories one day on my home account and stumbled across someone stating that they were going to participate it the One Room Challenge and my interest was spiked. One thing lead to another and here we are…our FIRST time ever to be a guest participate of the One Room Challenge!

If you’re unfamiliar, this is a 6 week challenge where bloggers/influencers from all over the world choose one room to transform and share about the process either through their blog or Instagram account. The ORC is not a competition, but rather a celebration of creativity, inspiration, and original ideas. You can check out the other participants rooms here.

week 2 / week 3 / week 4 / week 5 / week 6 – reveal

If you’re following along over on @homewithtdg you already know we have chosen the Laundry Room for this project and my current state of emotions is beyond excited, while totally nervous! As always, I have a million projects going at once which means I have a lot to do and I might be slightly in over my head. Such as redoing all the flooring in our home at the same time as we participate in a 6 week challenge to completely renovate our laundry room. Y’all have no idea how much my husband truly puts up with, but I know he will love the finished look.

Our laundry room is perfectly 2005 which means absolutely no updates have been made since the house was built. The laundry room was also one of those projects I always knew I wanted to get to but also on the bottom of the list as far as importance. When I signed up to be a guest for the ORC I knew I wanted a smaller project that would be doable, as this is my first time and I knew there would be a learning curve as well.

-STORAGE: More hidden storage space. Currently it’s one shelf that’s totally open which happens to look very cluttered because, well…it is! Lol

-SHELVING: Lower the shelving to be more user friendly. It’s currently highly enough that I should probably use a stool to get things down but instead reach for it and everything comes crashing down.

-DESIGN: Add some fun. Being the laundry room I really felt that we could get a little more creative add some color + update it to fit in with the rest of the house. It’s currently all white, with beige colored vinyl flooring…yuck, a total mood killer for sure. Folding clothes is never fun so I want to create a space I love walking into to hopefully inspire me to get the laundry folded rather than piling up in a basket.

-HOOKS: Better system for hanging out jackets, keys, leash, and more. This is basically our drop off zone when coming in and out of the house. I think making it functional will help keep it tidy.

-REPAIRS: Patch the hole where the old alarm system was and resurface a textured wall.

-FLOORING: Of course updating this, as well as the rest of the house.

I’ve put a lot of thought into how I want to design this space. I’ve had several weeks to really think on it. Ultimately I’ve fallen in love with my plans except for one simple part and I’m still not sure which route I’ll be taking with that (stay tuned) but it’s nothing major and can totally be changed last minute.

I have attached my mood board below and I am totally in love with it. I really hope that my plans all come together and are as perfect as this board. Lot’s of things have been ordered already, some I am waiting on approvals for and the rest I still need to get. So much to do in these short 6 weeks.

This week is all about clearing out the space. Taking down the existing shelving, removing the covering for the water valves, taking off the trim, ripping up the flooring, and starting from scratch.

I truly can’t wait to share with you the work that’s put into this space over the next several week. I’m sure I’ll be learning a ton. Don’t forget to follow along at @homewithtdg for fun DIY projects, demo, and videos of this space as it comes to life. #oneroomchallenge #bhgorc // @oneroomchallenge @betterhomesandgardens

What do you think so far? Are you as excited as I am?

Xoxo, Taylor G.
