Personal Development Round UP- SUmmer 2020

Personal Development Round UP- SUmmer 2020

I was never really into reading, in fact I said I hated it for many years. When I became an entrepreneur personal development was one of the vital behaviors that I was told would change my business and my life. So I picked up my first personal development book and WOW! I literally had a transformation over night in just my mindset. I couldn’t put the book down and quickly realized how BADLY I needed personal development in my life to change my small minded ways and attitude.

Since then I’ve read tons and tons of books, podcast, etc on the topics of growth, mindset, and getting out of your own way. Mindset is something that we ALL have to work on daily and committing to 10-15 minutes a day of reading empowering words can really give you the shift that you need in your personal and business goals.

I can’t tell you how thankful I am that I decided to pick up that book years ago. Going through the the loss of our newborn baby this year has me feeling extremely grateful that I spent countless hours working on my mindset through personal development and devotionals. I honestly can’t tell you or even imagine what my grief would look like today without it.

I wanted to give you a list of my current reads and also a few of my all time favorites that I continue to turn back to over and over again.

Current Reads:

#1: Uninvited – This isn’t my first time reading this book and it definitely won’t be my last. When I read this book for the first time it was almost 3 years ago and what I walked away with was something TOTALLY different than what I took away the second time. Our seasons change. We get new battle wounds and it changes who we are. Three years ago I was a different person. I was falling in love with my now husband, I was just settling into my first apartment on my own in a new state, I had a new job, I was exploring and figuring out who I was without the people and places I had grew up knowing. When I finished this book for the second time only two weeks ago I was a grieving mom of our 3 day old baby boy. I learned and grasped a totally different perspective of the devotional. It gave me a different kind of strength for my new stage of life and it was powerful. I held onto so many of the words and scriptures from this book to help me through some of the darkest moments of my life. It talks about feeling uninvited, left out and the jealousy that comes from it. The first time around I could have easily related that to being in a new city with no family and only one friend. Today, I relate it to the feeling of losing our child, feeling alone, and wondering why us? Such a powerful read and one I would highly suggest if you’re facing a difficult time.

#2: Divine Direction – this one has sat in a box in the garage for the last 3 years. I’ve never picked it up until a couple weeks ago, it was actually my moms and somehow got sent with me in my out of state move. Wow. It was like this book appeared out of nowhere covered in dust when I needed it most. I LOVE me some Craig Groeschel. I attend Life Church and absolutely LOVE his style of sharing the word. It always makes total sense, so I knew this book was going to be a good one. Again, in this season of life as I’m experiencing the worse pain and heartache I’ve ever gone through I needed direction. I needed to know how to move forward and find myself again. Every story and chapter hits home, giving me the divine direction that I need. Real life stories of people facing hardships that I can relate to totally opens up my mindset to believe, I can do this too. Even if you’re not in the midst of your world crashing down, this one is such a good read to make small changes in your daily routine that add up to powerful testimonies.

#3: 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership – I’ve read this one previously but as I dig back into my business and give it everything I’ve got, leadership is the key component. I have so many INCREDIBLE woman that I lead to living healthier more fulfilling lives and it starts with my leadership and leading the way. I can’t wait to discover new “ahh-ha” moments the second time around.

#4: Girl, Wash Your Face – I remember reading this one for the first time as we were eagerly and impatiently buying our first home. It was so stressful and so many moments where I felt defeated. I would read and read this book until I filled my positivity cup back up. There are some books that I just can’t put down, and this was one of them. She speaks so much truth into who you are meant to be.

#5: Be All You Can Be – If you want some serious truth bombs followed by actionable items you can put into place this is perfect. As a leader and business owner I took so many powerful tips away from this book. Mindset game changer for sure.

#6: Everything is Figureoutable – I have not read this one yet but I heard it’s a good one. I have it on my list to get to. The title is powerful without even reading the book. One thing I’ve learned through my journey is that we decide how we see the outcome of our situations. We can be sad and depressed wondering why us? OR we can choose to walk forward in faith knowing that God will reveal his mighty goodness from every situation. Everything is figureoutable, even when it’s so tough to see in the midst of it.

#7: Prayers & Promises for Supernatural Childbirth – whether you are facing infertility, battling a miscarriage, pregnant, pregnant after loss, or about to give birth THIS is hands down the book you need. I read this EVERY single night before going to bed while I was pregnant. My good friend and business partner sent this to me when I was struggling with fear during pregnancy after our miscarriage. Honestly I can’t even begin to explain how much this helped me especially after having scary news after every prenatal appointment. Pregnancy is such a delicate experience and I would literally hand this book out to every single woman trying to conceive if I could. Some of it is a little over my head but I just focused on the prayers and promises. So incredible.

Those are my current reads or on the list that I plan to get to over the next few months. Now I want to share some of my all time favorites that I have really enjoyed over the years:

#1 You are a Badass – this book was a freaking game changer. I’ve read this probably 5 times and still not over how amazing it is. If you’re looking for a book to really give you that “AHH-HA” moment this is it. I literally think everyone and their mother should read this book at least twice. It’s so powerful and speaks so many truths. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for?

#2: The Mindset Mentor with Rob Dial (Podcast)– I recently ran across this podcast and had the opportunity to be on an exclusive call with him. In the 1.5 hours spent with him I probably had 15-20 ahh-ha moments. He speaks so much life into you, I promise if you listen to his podcast you will walk away feeling like you can accomplish anything. He’s actually been voted iTunes #1 Motivational Podcast. It was a pleasure to chatting with him, I walked away with a new morning habit to add into my morning routine and a whole new perspective on my daily thoughts and actions. One more thing, the episodes are only 15-20 minutes, YES YES YES!

#3: Trust & Believe with Shaun T (Podcast)– Seriously though, how could this not be my favorite? Have you ever looked into this mans eyes while he is speaking straight BELIEF into you? I have multiple times…real life, in person. If I’ve ever been inspired the most by someone, it would be my boy Shaun T. He brings the energy… in person, on the podcast, workouts, his book, whatever he’s doing, I PROMISE you’ll want to be a part of it. The podcast is really just that, TRUSTING & BELIEVING in yourself. Getting deep, getting real, and RUNNING for those goals.

I hope one of these will books or podcast will inspire you to take a chance on personal development if you aren’t already. There is so much more of you that deserves to be known, whether that is to yourself or to others. Let that light SHINE and never quite working on the very best version of yourself.

Xoxo, Taylor G.
